The Sound(s) of Silence
The first time I listened to The Sound Of Silence in high school, it was, as always, a less than ideal environment: noisy air conditioner, dogs barking, people talking, etc. I did not have a neck-loop in those days. Even with the title referencing “Sound” and “Silence”, it just didn’t captivate me back then.
You have to remember, there was no internet in the 80’s and 90’s. You had your fingers crossed the lyrics are printed in the CD jacket. IF you are really lucky, there are commas, periods, paragraphs, song breaks, and liner notes to guide you. Otherwise, you got a continuous string of lyrics, from the first song to the last song, which didn’t help much, at all.
Rarely have I read a song’s lyrics and felt a connection. Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound Of Silence, is one of those rare times.
Is The Sound Of Silence the Deaf community mantra?
